Justice In Nigeria Now! (JINN) is a San Francisco-based organization working in solidarity with communities in Nigeria and allies in the U.S. to hold multinational corporations accountable for their operations in Nigeria to act in a manner that respects human rights, protects the environment, and enhances community livelihood.
JINN's Goals:
•To seek improvements in the operating practices of the extractive industry in Nigeria that result in better conditions for people and the environment;
•To build public awareness and momentum in the U.S. to curb practices by oil companies acting in collusion with the Nigerian government who violate human rights and destroy the environment;
•To work in solidarity with Nigerian civil society groups who demand respect for basic human rights for local residents by oil companies and the Nigerian government and who seek job training and employment opportunities, environmental clean up, and access to clean water, electricity, education and healthcare;
•To call for accountability and transparency regarding the practices of U.S. companies operating in Nigeria, such as full public disclosure regarding the extent of the relationship with military and police forces - including all payments, housing and transportation provided;
•To advocate for diplomatic solutions, not military operations in the Niger Delta that will address issues of poverty, underdevelopment and environmental destruction;
•To connect Nigerian groups in alliance with other organized communities around the world who are adversely affected by extractive industry practices.
